monterey sea otters

we went down the monterey to see whales...instead we were given a show right below us on the pier of this sea otter mama and her baby munching on abalone....lovely how they lie on their backs to eat, after mama dives down for it and cracks open the shell....

in this photo, baby swims over to ma and grabs a big hunk of abalone....it was adorable. we watched them for almost an hour.
